About this volume

This is the second volume of Forgotten Remedies: Old-World Cures, Modern Evidence, a working manuscript gathering old-world food and medicine knowledge. This volume is the foraging companion: sixty-six edible wild plants across ten American regions, with identification features, dangerous look-alikes, edible parts, seasons, and preparation — plus the High-Risk Lookalike Index of fifteen deadly confusions, universal foraging safety rules, and notes on harvesting sustainably and legally.

Read the safety rules and the High-Risk Lookalike Index before harvesting anything. They are part of every entry, not separate from it.

FORAGING WARNING: never identify or eat a wild plant from book illustrations alone. Many medicinal and edible plants have deadly look-alikes, and misidentification can kill. The illustrations in this book are an aid, not a field guide. If you gather plants from the wild, learn them in person from a knowledgeable local expert, and confirm every identification with more than one reliable source.

Every plant illustration in this volume is original hand-drawn artwork in a classic ink-and-watercolor botanical plate style, drawn from reference photographs and checked for botanical accuracy. Because all artwork is original to this book, there are no third-party licensing concerns — but accuracy-checked art is still no substitute for in-person identification with an expert and field guides.
