About this volume

This is the third volume of Forgotten Remedies: Old-World Cures, Modern Evidence — the fieldcraft manual. It opens with two chapters on keeping biting insects off you and handling medical problems in the backwoods when help is far away: the insect-repellent chapter separates what actually works from folk claims that do not, and the first-aid chapter is anchored to Wilderness Medical Society guidelines, clearly marking what you can handle in the field versus what means stabilize and get out. Nine more chapters follow: Fire, Shelter, Water (finding and purifying), Navigation and Signaling, Knots, Field Medicine-Making (turning Volume 1's remedies and Volume 2's wild plants into tinctures, oils, salves, and poultices), Food Preservation, Dangerous Wildlife, and Weather Reading.

Nothing in this book is medical advice. First-aid techniques here are for emergencies when professional care is delayed or unavailable — they do not replace training or professional treatment. Get proper wilderness first-aid training before you need it.
